Born and raised in Ohio, Mark has 30 plus years of hunting experience to his credit. His son Clayton, who is 11 years old, has followed in his footsteps with a love of football and the outdoors. Clayton took his first doe at age 9 and took his first buck the very next day.
After high school, Mark moved to Kentucky on a football scholarship to Western Kentucky University. Shortly after his college football days were over, he began calling competitively in turkey calling contests at the urging of his friends. It didn’t take him long to get hooked on the competitive aspect of the sport.
In addition to turkey calling, Mark quickly excelled on the duck calling circuit as well. Since his calling contest days began, he has called in the World’s Duck Calling Contest 5 times and the Grand National Turkey Calling Contest 3 times. In addition to being a competitive caller, Mark has worked in the outdoor industry and as a pro staff member for a number of other companies.
Like many of us, Mark started out hunting small game and eventually moved to big game hunting. He is an avid deer, turkey, and waterfowl hunter and has hunted other game such as elk and coyotes. Mark’s theory is, “If you can call it, he’ll hunt it!!”
In 2011, Mark joined good friend and former college teammate, William Howard when he formed Heritage Farm Outfitters. Heritage Farm Outfitters focuses on youth hunting and education and boasts a 100% success rate in the 2011 spring turkey season and deer season. The future of the outdoors is our youth and the only way to prosper and keep our sport alive is to introduce and educate kids in the outdoor lifestyle.
